Will A Speeding Ticket Make My Insurance Too Expensive?

By John Brennan

Many people will experience that sinking feeling when they see a police car in their mirror and realize they're well over the speed limit. You're not alone; but after you've paid the fine, how much will you have to pay to your insurance company for that moment of carelessness?

The good news is that insurance companies don't lump all speeders together. A driver with a long and clean history up until the ticket may well not be punished too much by higher premiums. But don't expect that to be true if you've only held your insurance for a couple of months.

Age also plays a strong role, with younger drivers taking a hit in overall cost, even if they abide by all the rules of the road. A young driver with a ticket clearly indicates to the insurance company that they are a bad risk.

The companies also take into account the exact nature of the violation: the amount over the speed limit, as well as how high the total speed was clocked. All these elements have a role in dictating the driver's level of risk.

If your ticket was written as a result of a wreck you caused, expect your insurance to increase significantly. This is true no matter what your age or previous driving record. Anytime a driver causes damages to their own car, someone elseas car, or property, the insurance company must pay money and you become an insurance risk.

On the other hand, it is a relatively little known fact that tickets can be dismissed and excluded from your driving record by a court. Courts often dismiss tickets for smaller violations, with the driver only having to pay court costs. Check out the exact situation in your state.

Many Americans don't have any car insurance - make sure you're not one of them! It is important that you are properly protected by an insurance policy for when disaster hits, regardless of how good a driver you think you are. Well known companies like Allstate and Progressive Direct can provide you with insurance online or by phone. Always provide accurate and truthful information, and take the time to shop around for quotes and the best deal.

Nobody enjoys getting a ticket, but it need not be a disaster in terms of continued insurance coverage of your driving. As with most things in life, it pays to be prepared. Check out your insurer's policy towards traffic tickets BEFORE you get caught. That way you won't have to face anything more unpleasant than the police officer's telling-off.

Pay Off Your Debt

By Michael Benifez

If you've decided that you are tired of constant calls from debt collectors, it's time to do something about your old debts. If you feel that you are buried under your debts and it is impossible to pay your way out of debt, you are not alone. When you find yourself in this situation, you should consult a debt counselor, who is trained to help people like you achieve freedom from their debts. They can help you get your debt under control. They'll also help you plan a budget that you can stick to, and teach you good financial strategies. Their advice can help you keep yourself out of debt once you are finally debt-free, because you'll learn good spending habits in the process of reducing your debt.

Other choices when you find yourself faced with extreme debt are filing for bankruptcy, or trying to find a loan to consolidate your debts. Compared to these choices, debt counseling is an excellent alternative. If you file for bankruptcy, your credit rating will be ruined for several years. In some cases, you may even risk losing your personal property by filing for bankruptcy. This is a serious undertaking, and it should not be taken lightly. Bankruptcy should be your last resort if nothing else works to get you out of debt.

For some people, debt consolidation loans can work for paying off their creditors. However, the debt will still exist under the new loan, and many people do not alter their spending habits, landing right in the same place again increasing the stress caused by debts. Plus, because debt consolidation loans are offered to people considered high-risk, they sometimes require the use of collateral. If you are unable to repay the debt consolidation loan, you will lose this property.

Unlike these two often-used options, professional debt counselors work with you to create a repayment plan you'll be able to follow. They will also help you create a reasonable budget, so that you'll be able to find the money to pay back your creditors. It won't be easy, but with time you will pay off your debts. Then the phone calls will finally stop. Plus, you'll have the tools to keep yourself out of financial difficulties in the future. Many people fall into debt because they do not have a budget that they can stick to. By going through a debt counselor, you will be able to plan a budget that will keep you from overspending.

How to Use Debt Consolidation to Return to Financial Solvency

By Chad Obenken

There are many advantages to securing a debt consolidation loan when you have bad credit, not the least of which is alleviating the anxiety and stress that accompany an unmanageable level of personal debt. As the level of debt in your life creeps up to an unacceptable level, depression and physical health concerns are not uncommon. Debt consolidation can be the light at the end of the tunnel that will restore you to sanity and good health.

In addition to improving your credit score, debt consolidation can relieve the pressure you may be facing from one or more collection agencies, which have been known to use stress-inducing methods to achieve their goals. If you could roll all of these stressful obligations into one manageable monthly payment, you would begin to feel human again, and with each successful payment, you would feel your dignity restored. At the same time, you would be protected from harassment by the collection agents.

There are specialized debt consolidation loans for people who have fallen into a bad credit situation. As your financial situation deteriorated, most likely you defaulted or were late on several of your loan payments, and each problem payment has a detrimental effect on your credit score. After enough of these problems, you would not be able to qualify for a regular debt consolidation loan, due to your poor credit rating. This can leave you between a rock and hard place, financially speaking.

These debt consolidation loans for bad credit would accept your application even with a low credit score, pay your bills on time every month, and in the process, increase your credit rating a little bit with each payment. In a year or less, you would regain not only your credit rating, but your financial reputation and self-respect.

The companies that offer debt reduction programs would negotiate with each of your creditors to get your credit terms revised to the best possible interest rate and repayment schedule. They can often negotiate down any late payment fees or penalties that are due on the account. This creates a win-win situation for everyone. The creditor gets paid, and you end up with a lower monthly payments and a restored credit rating. Each month, you would pay the consolidation company one payment that is lower than the sum of all the payments that were due before. This allows you to get out of debt as fast as possible while at the same time giving you more available cash to spend living rather than paying to credit card late fees and interest.

So, don't let the depression related to over-indebtedness keep you from getting a consolidation loan today to begin improving your financial situation, stress level, and mental health.

Personal Development Always Fails Without Action And Application

By Christina Helwig

While sitting in a symposium in a few months ago, I realized something very basic to the entire topic of personal development. I understood so much more clearly why even though I have a deep understanding of this material, I have not been able to produce the results I want in my life until now.

For years my focus has been on learning and understanding this information; not their twin sister - application. I have spent hours reading, studying and taking notes on these topics. Those hours moved me light years ahead mentally but they did nothing until now for my physical, daily environment. I have been so intent on getting my mind around these concepts that I failed to pay attention to the most crucial aspect of this process = personal action.

Throughout "Think and Grow Rich" Napoleon Hill gives his readers many action steps to complete and several daily tasks to perform. I always thought "I will read the entire book and then go back and DO what he suggests." This was a HUGE mistake. Even if I was not in the right position, those action steps would have moved me closer to my dreams and would have begun the process of building up my self-esteem, self-confidence and my level of awareness of my innate ability to handle my big life goals. And, I incrementally would have been moving closer to what I desired, even if it was only a little bit at a time. I have since become an active student of the application of these concepts. It is only through action that I prepare the way and the method by which I can receive what I want in my life. If you fail to set up systems to receive what you want; you won't get it. You'll have rain and no buckets to carry the water in.

Please stop just reading about improving yourself and really think about whether you need to become an "active" student of "application" in your life. You learn the methods or the "certain way" only by doing, not by studying. Studying allows you to understand the process but to learn and internalize material you must act on all things that Napoleon Hill, Brian Tracy, Jack Canfield, Bob Proctor, Wallace Wattles and all the other personal growth authors tell you to do.

"Take the first step in faith and the rest will be revealed to you." Wallace Wattles. Take is a verb. A verb requires action. Recently I came up with an idea to help law students. I did not have the product finished or know all the details of what I wanted to include in my product. I did not know the distribution method or how I would advertise the product. But, I took action. I called my mentor and booked an appointment with her to talk about my idea. As the month ticked down I worked on my presentation, read some more material and got more ideas.

When I finally went in to talk to her in person she loved my idea. I only showed her a short snapshot of the project and she ended up booking me to teach to over 70 students in a month and a half. All of this happened because I did not wait until everything was "perfect," "complete," "just right" or "totally finished." I acted on my idea and my idea produced results. As I continue to take action on this project the next steps and new ideas keep coming to me. The project gets better and better and will help many people in the near future.

You can do this too. Stop waiting for the time to be right and just start working on your ideas. Without action nothing will happen. You will continue to pile up self-help books and seminar tickets and you will blame the books and speakers for not helping you. They are helping you; they are giving you the tools you need to move forward. Since they are not there to hold your hand when you act, you have to do it on your own. Remember small steps add up to big results. Last year I climbed Half Dome in Yosemite and I did it one step at a time. Sometimes it was hard, and sometimes it was fairly easy, but every step was important because it moved me closer to my goal.

While this may seem very elementary, taking action is crucial to your results and can delay or completely block your efforts if you do not pay attention to making things happen instead of just thinking about things happening. Like yin and yang: learning and application are two sides of the same coin.

It is wise to avoid agreements that appear too good to be true

By Rem

For many individuals, whether first time buyers or not, the prime consideration when looking at a fixed rate mortgage is the monthly repayment cost. Purchasing a home later in life means that many individuals need to have the mortgage paid off earlier. Although before signing any documents, there is a great deal to consider.

Over the course of the mortgage, it's essential to remember to make sure the interest rate doesn't change. It is always wise to avoid agreements that appear to too good to be true because they invariably are. The interest rate remains the same for long term fixed rate mortgages over the life of the mortgage.

Both my wife and I decided to research fixed rate mortgages when we began looking at homes for sale. Although it was important for us to pay off our loan as soon as we could, we didn't need high, unrealistic monthly payments which we would have a problem sustaining.

It became manifest that we had to look at fixed rate mortgages over a longer period and not just 15 year fixed mortgage rate plans. No-one likes the idea of having a mortgage when they are close to retiring, and we were no other, so it was still our hope that a 15 year fixed mortgage rate would still be an alternative.

We felt there was a good deal of pressure to have the house paid off as soon as practicable and for the most part we agreed with this. We thought about it long and hard, and despite the pressure we decided to go with the thirty year fixed mortgage rate repayment plan instead. My wife's donation to the monthly finances would probably be unreliable since she wanted to raise our child at home. Alas, a higher monthly payment is the downside of loans on a fifteen year fixed mortgage rate plan. Everything considered, we just didn't need to bite off more than we could chew as the cost of bringing up a child was an uncertain factor.

As such the 30 year fixed mortgage rate brought the monthly repayments down quite a bit. Fortunately, we are also able make supplemental repayments throughout the year to make the principal shrink faster. Just by making a handful of extra repayments throughout a twelve month period you can knock years off of your loan period. This is well worth the effort in the long run but it does require some discipline. Taking our current needs and fiscal abilities into account was more serious than our desire for a shorter term fifteen year fixed mortgage rate program. Altogether though, things worked out very well for us and we're pleased we made the decision we did.

How To Negotiate With Debt Collectors

By John Cooper

It can be very frustrating when you are being contacted by debt collectors. This can cause you to change your number, move or more.

This frustration is ten fold if the debt is not your debt. It is common for a lender to make a mistake and your account to go into collections. Trying to explain that the debt is not yours to a collector is next to impossible. This is because their motive is only to collect money not to fix mistakes.

If you find yourself in this position you should request validation of the debt. This is done by writing a letter to the debt collector and requesting validation. I suggest you do this by certified mail so you have documentation that they received your letter.

We strongly discourage you requesting validation over the phone; unfortunately these requests are often ignored. In addition you only have 30 days to request validation of the debt, once notified.

In addition it is becoming common for debt collectors to sell your account if you request validation. This is why I suggest you request validation through certified mail so you can prove that your request was ignored.

Instead I suggest you hire a credit service to dispute the negative credit items that the debt collectors have posted on your credit report. This way you will prevent your score from being damaged due to a lender mistake.

If the debt is valid then you should settle it. You should start your settlement offer at approximately 50% of the balance.

Start at 50% of the balance because the collector bought your account for a fraction of the balance. Also this will notify the collector that you are willing to pay you just need to agree on a price.

You will need to have the collector agree in writing that they will remove the negative item from your report in exchange for your payment. If this is not done then the item will change to a paid collection and it will still be seen as a negative mark on your credit by future lenders.

In sum I suggest a service to repair your credit report of debt collectors.
